BEACH BUMS WIN ROAD FINALE IN EXTRAS
Alexis Rivera hit an RBI single in the 10th, giving the Traverse City
Beach Bums’(36-56) an exciting win over the Schaumburg Boomers(65-29) by a final
score of 8-7, ending a season-long 11 game road trip.
For the second straight night, Schaumburg put up a multiple run
first inning. Tonight, it was Rock Shoulders and Zack Weigel each notching RBI
singles, and a third run scoring on a throwing error. Orlando Rivera led off the
third with a double to left field, then moved to third on a wild pitch. Steven
Patterson drove him in for the Bums’ first run, on a sacrifice
In the fourth, John Montgomery led off with a double down the right field line. Two batters later, Arby Fields singled to move Montgomery to third. Quinter Alexander then lined out to short, but a throwing error allowed Montgomery to score from third. Jeff DeBlieux followed with a bunt base hit, then Orlando Rivera hit an RBI single to score Fields, tying the game. The Bums took the lead after two wild pitches allowed DeBlieux to score. Patterson then finished off the offense in the inning with an RBI single, giving Traverse City a 5-3 lead.
Schaumburg got a run back in the fifth when James Keller hit an RBI
sacrifice fly. The teams traded runs in the seventh, with the Beach Bums getting
singles from Montgomery and Kendall Patrick, putting runners on the corners.
Arby Fields then hit a sacrifice fly to score Montgomery. In the bottom of the
frame, Jack Parenty scored on a wild pitch.
Jeff DeBlieux started the top of eighth with an infield hit then
moved to second with an Orlando Rivera sacrifice bunt. He then scored on an
Alexis Rivera RBI single, as Rivera extended his hit streak to eight games. In
the bottom of the inning, Schaumburg tied the game on an RBI grounder by Jack
Parenty, and a James Keller sacrifice fly.
After a scoreless ninth, DeBlieux led off the 10th with
another infield single, and moved to second on Orlando Rivera’s third sacrifice
bunt of the game. With Patterson at the plate, DeBlieux moved to third on a wild
pitch, then Patterson was intentionally walked. Alexis Rivera lined a shot up
the middle, scoring Deblieux.
Matt Williams hurled the final two innings for the win, improving
to 2-1. He was perfect while striking out three. Michael Wood suffered the loss
to fall to 4-3. He pitched the 10th, allowing the winning run on two
Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums return home to complete the season with a four-game home stand against the Washington Wild Things. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and the radio voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, will go on the air at 6:45pm with the Budweiser Pre-Game Show, on 101.9 FM- The Bay.
