Beach Bums Reading Program
The Beach Bums along with Traverse City State Bank are well into the 3rd year of the Reading Program, and March is National Reading month, so it's a perfect time to 'freshen up' Suntan & Sunburn’s look!
The Beach Bums are very excited to incorporate Sunburn into the new logo. "We are just thrilled to get him up and going for this! He's a hard one to get going sometimes, especially if there's still snow on the ground," joked Michele LeMieux, Reading Program Coordinator.
2008 marks the third consecutive year the Beach Bums and Traverse City State Bank have teamed up to encourage kids to "Read around the Bases" and "Hit a Homerun" for prizes and a chair back ticket to a Beach Bums game this season. With just over 8,000 student participants from 27 schools around Grand Traverse County, the Reading Program is in its home stretch!
Here's how the program works:
Start reading! Find a good book, curl up and start reading!
Suntan & Sunburn love to read about baseball but they also like all different types of books. It does not matter what type of book you read, as
long as you enjoy it!- Record every book you finish on your poster. An added challenge for 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders: ONE book = 100 pages. For example, a book with a lot of pages such as Harry Potter may equal four or five books.
- Readers can hit it out of the park by finishing 20 books and earn a FREE ticket to a special Beach Bums game next summer where they will be allowed to run the bases for real after every SUNDAY Beach Bums' home game.
- When you finish reading your way around the bases, have your teacher check your poster and add your name to the Super Reader List.
THE DEADLINE TO MEET YOUR READING GOAL IS APRIL 1ST, 2008!
If you only read part way around the bases, that's okay! Your teacher will add your name to the Super Reader List and check off which base you reached. Even if you do not hit a home run, you can still collect some really great prizes.
Prizes and tickets will be delivered to each classroom by Suntan (with some surprise visits from Sunburn as well) or another Beach Bums representative during the month of May and June.
As an added bonus this season Beach Bums tickets are chair back seats this year and are good only for your school's designated night. The ticket office will work with student and their parents to block out a special area for your school.
No refunds or exchanges will be permitted.
Family and friends may purchase addition tickets by calling the Beach Bums Ticket Office at 231-943-0100, visiting the team website at www.traversecitybeachbums.com or stopping by the Wuerfel Park Ticket Office during regular business hours once individual game tickets go on sale in the spring!
